All schools will be closed on Friday 8th May 2020 for the May Day Bank Holiday. Please note this day replaces Mon 4th May 2020, to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
We would remind parents that Merthyr Tydfil as a local authority are following Welsh Government recommendations leading to a zero tolerance policy on holidays during term time. Only in exceptional circumstances could these be approved by the school.
Therefore, we urge parents to take note of the details of exams and controlled assessment requirements when we circulate them, and to make every effort to arrange holidays to coincide with those of the school.
Your aim should be 100% attendance.
In the case of the GCSE examinations, a proportion of the marks in a subject is obtained from work done by the pupils over the two year period. This is completed in Controlled Assessments. The marks gained in this way often count for between 20% and 50% of the total examination marks and are critical to the final grade achieved. Absence during the term can, therefore, be very damaging to the prospects of a pupil.
