Towards the end of Year 9, pupils have the opportunity to make choices regarding their GCSE courses in Years 10 and 11, yet will still follow a CORE curriculum in the key National Curriculum subjects of English, Mathematics and Science (including the separate sciences), as well as compulsory subjects such as RE, Welsh, PE and Welsh Baccalaureate.
The school offers an option pattern at Key Stage 4, where pupils currently have a free choice across 3 option boxes. A wide range of over 25 courses are available and vary slightly from year to year depending on their availability and changes to the National Agenda.
All pupils follow a PSE programme which provides important guidance in social and health-related matters, as well as Careers Education, Citizenship and Education for Sustainable Development. Full details of these options choices are to be found in “What Next?” a booklet issued to Year 9 pupils in the Spring Term. They are also displayed on the Careers Wales online website.
Pupils are well supported and guided throughout the process of decision making on new learning pathways for Key Stage 4.
